Brittany Little's Coms326 Accidents

Fun and Accidents When White Water Rafting Down The Upper Gauley

This video shows accidents that could happen when white water rafting down the Upper Gauley if you don't follow our rafting instructor. Luckly during my rafting experience with rafting guide company Class VI nobody in my raft fell overboard this time. But this doesn't mean that people don't ever get hurt or fall out of their raft.

Deaths that occurs on the Upper Gauley River in 2009

  • According to the NCB4 news, NCB4 news a man from Circleville, OH passed away on
September 12. after an accident whitewater rafting in West Virginia during "Gauley Season".
Eric Clark leaves behind a wife, and three children.
  • On September 28, 2009 The Charleston Gazette Gazette-Mail reports Eric L. Hampton of
Louisville becomes unresponsive after his raft flipped on the Upper Gauley
    and eventually passes away.
  • Several other accidents have been reported while whitewater rafting on the Upper
Gauley in West Virginia during 2009.

Before deciding that this looks fun, make sure you follow this rules.

  1. Always listen to your instructor.
  2. Know the safety and precautions.
  3. Be in good health.
  4. Know the risks you are taking during this event.
  5. Know what to do if you fall out of the raft.

I want to get attributions to NCB4, The Charleston Gazette and other websites the have provided me with information for this project. I also want to give special thanks to the Class VI rafting company for allowing me permission to use their video for this academic purpose.
